Wedding and Portrait Photography

During one of our get-to-know-each-other-better meetings, a common question is.. "what's the audio CD all about?"

A brief history. In doing some research one winter about client's post celebration "regrets" I came across this feedback. Quite a few regretted not being able to recall the speeches and toasts. Even when given a paper copy of the actual words, they lamented how the tone and delivery they remember from their wedding day faded very quickly. Of the hundreds or thousands of little moments throughout their day, they had trouble remembering the kind words offered up by their friends and family.

Ok, how about "mostly" kind words.

I came up with an idea. Why not record the speeches during the reception?

Why Lorne... you're brilliant! You are already there making pictures. How hard could it be to set up 2 high end video cameras and capture this important memory?

Ummm... way more difficult than I could have imagined.

It wasn't the video portion that presented the challenge, it was the audio. Short story... it sucked. I wasn't using the right gear and was doing a poor job of it.

So, I nixed the visuals and just concentrated on the audio. Now we bring 2 high end voice recorders to every wedding and 2 high end microphones. Why 2? Backup. Backup. Backup.

The recorder holds 10 hours of high quality audio, so I put it in place when dinner starts and turn it off after the first dance is complete.

After your wedding, you'll get an audio CD with all the speeches and toasts pulled from the hours of audio captured..
